Communications Lieutenant Job Opening

About the Position

The Communications Lieutenant is a member of the Police Department’s administrative team. Under the supervision of the Chief of Police, this exempt position is responsible for the management of the daily activities of the Communication Center including supervision of subordinates, preparing work schedules, equipment maintenance, budgeting, & operations. 

As the sole Communications Center for all of Ellis County, the Communication Center handles non-emergency & 911 calls for five law enforcement agencies, four fire service agencies, Ellis County EMS, & Animal Control. The Communications Center has 14 full time employees.

Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday with flexible hours. Occasional weekends and evenings may be required.


Possession of Bachelor's degree in a related field of study or equivalent combination of training & experience in a related field is required. Excellent communication, supervisory, organizational, & public relation skills are necessary. Candidates must be able to become certified with the Emergency Medical Dispatch & the National Crime Information Center.

Compensation and Benefits

Full pay range: $56,939— $84,609 plus excellent benefits included family health insurance, paid time off, Kansas Public Employee Retirement System (KPERS), & longevity bonus.
