Fire Inspections
The Hays Fire Department Fire Inspection's program main purpose is to detect and prevent conditions that may be hazardous to public life and property. The Fire Inspectors work to reduce the frequency and effects of fire through education, code administration, enforcement and plan review.
The Fire Inspectors are responsible for conducting fire inspections of commercial buildings, industrial buildings, businesses, restaurants, schools, churches, multi-family housing, daycare centers and other structures open to the public. The majority of these inspections are completed on an annual basis. These inspections are completed to ensure and encourage fire safety, access, and proper storage and containment of hazardous materials to protect the building occupants, firefighters and the community. The Fire Inspectors are nationally certified and receive ongoing training.
Fire Inspectors also routinely handle:
- Fire safety and prevention
- Fire extinguisher demonstrations and training
- Firework Stands
- Conducting local educational programs on fire safety and fire prevention
- Annual inspections of properties with cereal malt beverage or liquor licenses
- Assists in the formulation and revision of ordinances and fire codes
Fire Inspectors work closely with local agencies and youth programs to promote responsible citizenry and fire safety. Fire Inspectors also work closely with the State Fire Marshal’s Office on the inspections of all public schools and on the inspections of daycare's.
