Planning is responsible for the coordination of land development activities through the administration of Zoning and Subdivision Regulations within the City of Hays and the Extraterritorial Jurisdiction area surrounding the City.
The Hays Area Planning Commission consisting of nine members representing both the City and the extraterritorial jurisdiction, acts on and approves plats, makes recommendations to the City Commission regarding zoning regulations. The Hays Area Planning Commission meets on the third Monday of each month.
The Board of Zoning Appeals consists of five members and only appointed by the City. The Board of Zoning Appeals considers variance applications and special use permits as provided under state statutes. The Board of Zoning Appeals meets on the second Wednesday of each month.
Applications for platting, change of zoning, variance and special use permits are available in the Inspections Office.
