Annual Alley Cleanup

The annual alley cleanup is an opportunity to discard items that would not be picked up in the normal refuse collection.

The annual alley cleanup consists of one sweep through the City. No set schedule is established; however, curbside services will be first with regular alley services following. The number of employees committed to the task may vary from day to day; therefore, crews are unable to predict when they will be by a residence.

Waste That Will Not Be Picked Up

As in years past, the City will not pick up tires, hazardous waste, batteries, and medical waste. Tires should be disposed of at the Ellis County Landfill, and hazardous waste and batteries should be disposed of at the Ellis County Hazardous Waste Facility. Medical waste can be taken to the Ellis County Health Department. Please call 785-628-9460, 785-628-9449, or 785-628-9440 for detailed information.

Sort Your Waste

Waste should be placed in four separate piles in preparation of the alley cleanup. The piles should be organized in the following manner:

Construction & Demolition Debris

  • Bricks
  • Drywall
  • Lumber
  • Sinks
  • Wires
  • Etc.

Please pull or bend over nails and place small quantities of concrete, bricks, and plaster in containers.

Tree Limbs & Brush

Waste must not exceed 12 feet in length or 6 inches in diameter. All yard and garden waste must be bagged to be collected!

White Goods / Metals

  • Dryers
  • Guttering
  • Metal Swing Sets
  • Refrigerators
  • Siding
  • Washing Machines
  • Etc.

Municipal Waste

Municipal waste includes all other items.

  • Carpet
  • Furniture
  • Etc.

Note

To avoid wrongful pick up, "treasured items" should be tagged or removed from the collection area.
