The City of Hays Residential Blue Bag Program is easy and convenient to use.
Here are tips to make it easier for you: Please use Blue Bags Only for Recyclables and Not for Trash.
PLEASE PLACE RECYCLABLES APPROXIMATELY 2-3 FEET AWAY FROM POLYCARTS! .

Blue Bag # 1 - Mixed Paper/Cardboard
|
|
|
Newspapers: Inserts are acceptable.
Mixed Paper: Includes Clean Junk Mail, Phone Books, Catalogs, Magazines, Misc. paper products.
Cardboard:
- Corrugated Boxes
- "Product Boxes" such as cereals, cakes, potato flakes, rice, etc. just REMOVE liners
- Cardboard Egg Cartons
- Large Cardboard boxes that do not fit in the bags do not need to be bagged. Please take steps to keep paper and cardboard dry.

Blue Bag # 2 - Co-Mingled Bag
|

Glass Bottles and Jars (Any Color)
Aluminum/Tin Beverage & Food Cans:
- Empty & rinse cans clean (helps w/odor control).
- Labels DO NOT have to be removed.

Plastics:
Plastic Containers #1-7. Milk jugs, juice jugs, distilled water jugs, laundry detergent containers, yogurt containers, shampoo containers, etc.

Items that should NOT be included in Blue Bags
|
|
|
Items that are not recyclable:
- Styrofoam
- Cigarettes
- Packaging "Peanuts"
- Plastic bags – Dillon's and Wal-Mart grocery bags, bread bags, plastic wrap, etc.
Certain items can actually contaminate the recycling material. Please do not include these items in the blue bags:
- Ceramics, crystal, glass doors, light bulbs, mirrors, Pyrex, windowpanes, windshields, aerosol cans, batteries, oil/paint cans or hazardous chemicals.
Please take all hazardous waste to the Ellis County hazardous waste site (Call 628-9449 for details)
