The Fort Hays State University Encore Series is one of the premier entertainment options available in Western Kansas. The Encore Series consists of eight programs annually and features national and international professional touring artists. The series makes it possible for citizens of western Kansas to experience high caliber performances without traveling several hours to a large city and without paying big city prices. All Encore events are held in Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center, the crown jewel of FHSU arts and entertainment.

Felten-Start Theatre is located in Malloy Hall. This performing arts facility is home to the FHSU Players Theatre Productions and musicals. FHSU students, faculty and staff and local community members have the opportunity to participate in numerous theatre productions and musicals throughout the year. The Department of Communication Studies campus theatre organization puts on four shows per year which are typically held in October, November, March and May. In addition, several one act plays are performed by students during the spring semester.
