The City of Hays - City Commission, in an election year, has three open seats for public office.
Interested candidates for City Commissioner are required to file with the office of the City Clerk, located in City Hall, 1507 Main, no later than noon on the Tuesday preceding by ten weeks the 1st Tuesday in April of an odd year. Each filing must be accompanied by the appropriate filing fee ($10.00), or by petition.
A primary election will be held only if seven or more candidates run for the commission seats. The two candidates with the highest vote totals in the general election will serve four-year terms. The candidate with the third-highest vote total will serve a two-year term.
